SADDEST MUSIC IN THE WORLD
Imagine that you are living in a small shack in northern Canada in the middle of the winter.
You are miles from nowhere and it is dark outside most of the time. The only source of communication
you have with the outside world is a small television set (say, a 10 inch screen). Of course you do not
have cable so you pick up the TV with an antenna on the roof. However, the wind blows constantly so the
image on the TV fades in and out unpredictably; occasionally, color shows through, but mostly the image
on the TV is black and white, snowy, and distorted. All they show on the one channel you can get is old
reruns of the Red Green show.
If the above scenario sounds absolutely wonderful to you, you will probably love this movie.
I realize that Guy Maddin is an acquired taste -- perhaps I will learn to appreciate his movies more
someday -- but I just could not get into this one.
I gave this movie a rating of 2 stars.
