Rather than the whole being greater than the sum of its parts, this is a movie where many of the individual scenes are much better than the movie as a whole. Opening scenes are great and suck you in thinking this is going to be a great movie. Some of the same kinds of tension that Friedkin achieved in The French Connection with fast moving trains and cars, he accomplishes here with very slow moving trucks. Many great potential themes are introduced, but none of them are followed up on. I would have given this movie a rating of 4 if the movie had brought to conclusion even one of the potential powerful themes that were introduced. Instead, the movie settled for this rather pitiful hollywood plotline:
4 little characters
scattered round the globe from east to west
Soon these characters come together
and decide to embark upon a quest

4 little characters
embarked upon a quest
Soon something bad happens
and then there was one less

3 little characters
driving through the slough
Soon something bad happens
and then there was but two

2 little characters
driving towards the sun
Soon something bad happens
and then there was only 1

1 little character
looks like his job is finally done
But wait, looks like something bads bout to happen
soon there will be none
I gave this movie a rating of 3 stars.
